Basic Coastal Cruising

This course is designed for people who wish to be able to bareboat charter boats in either the Colorado area or foreign parts of the world such as the Virgin Islands of the Pacific Northwest. The course is 18 hours in length consisting of 3 three hour Theory Session and 3 three hour Practical Sessions on the water.

NOTE: If you are taking both the Basic Keelboat Sailing course and the Basic Coastal Cruising course you will be taking a total of 3 - three hour Theory classes and 6 Practical Sessions. The course includes:


Ashore Knowledge

3 - Three (3) Hour Dry Land Theory Sessions

Subjects include Duties of the Skipper and Crew, Chart Reading, Anchoring, Tides and Currents, and Preparing for the Sea.

Skills Afloat

3 - Three (3) Hour Practical Sessions on the Water.

Items covered include Maneuvering Under Power , Boat Handling Under Sail, Heaving To, Reefing, Man Overboard, Anchoring and Snugging Down.

Final Exam

1 - Up to 3 Hour ASA/CYC Exam.
